I’m always amused when someone wants to know the best product, but dozens of people reply with the name of their favorite product. Often, those people have only tried that one product. Yet they claim it’s the best.
The “best” of something should not be determined by popularity. It must be evaluated. Objectively. Within parameters. (Just because a lot of people like something doesn’t mean they’re right.)
When I first started writing about polymer clay, I made the mistake of repeating incorrect info others had told me. I did this without having evaluated it myself. And I got called out for it, too. Embarrassing.
That’s why I don’t talk out of my backside. I explore. I evaluate. I read. I look up MSDS data sheets. I buy many products to serve as comparisons. I test. I document. And I repeat any tests that don’t make sense. I’m a bit obsessive.
While not technically science (I cringe a bit when people say I scientifically test things … I don’t), I do try to use controls when possible. I try to make things as clear as possible so I can be sure of what I’m seeing. I aim to find the truth and then share that info with you.
Why? Because nobody wants to use something that fades, gets sticky, or falls apart. Knowledge is power. And my goal is to make you a powerful master of this wonderful medium.
