Do you sell your artwork or your jewelry? Then don’t use the same business model as the big box stores.
Here are six ways that you are not Walmart.
• There will always be another seller willing to go lower. You can’t afford to be the low-price leader.
• Have you ever paid more than you “should” to get exactly what you want? Of course. Create things people want to pay too much for.
• If someone needs a generic THING, let them go to Walmart. Don’t make generic things.
• Bulk numbers mean lower prices. (Your costs don’t go down if you make more earrings. Handmade doesn’t work like that.)
• If you don’t want to compete with your competitor, then offer what they don’t, won’t, or can’t. Luckily, you can choose what this is.
• Everyone knows what Walmart is. They don’t need to educate the buyer. But you will definitely need to market yourself and find your ideal buyer. What will you tell them?
