About this Piece

I’m not sure why it bothers me so much that people refer to varnish as a “glaze” for polymer clay. To me, a glaze is for doughnuts (sticky, flaky, sugary) or for pottery (colorful, patterned). But a glaze…a real pottery glaze…is what I was going for here. You know, that wonderfully luscious, swirled, speckled, and colorful stuff that gets slathered and dripped onto ceramics. One thing to note here, one of the colors I used (the chartreuse green) turns yellow when it’s very dilute, so the lower half of this tile really looks yellow, and I had no intention of this happening. I suppose this is a great illustration of why testing our materials is important!
