
There’s nothing wrong with mistakes. We all make them, and they’re part of learning. They’re how we learn what doesn’t work. And if you don’t keep trying things (which might end up being a mistake), you won’t be able to discover new, better, and more suitable solutions.
What’s bad is when you are afraid to quit a bad idea. “Well, I’ve come this far…” is the refrain that keeps us from succeeding and moving forward. If it’s a bad idea…quit. Now.
It doesn’t matter that you’ve already spent time or money getting you to this point. Those are called sunk costs. They’re gone. They have no value anymore. Call it “research and development” costs if that makes you feel better.
But the minute you realize this isn’t going to work… now …is the time to quit and try something else. That’s the only way forward.
