About this Piece

I’ve never found it easy to carve polymer clay. Not because it’s hard to carve…no, it’s soft and easy to slice through. But it’s also elastic. And that means the clay pushes ahead of the tool rather than being cut by it. (In fact, that’s an issue anytime we cut polymer clay.) And in this case, the elastic body of the clay drags and pulls and makes jagged lines when you try to carve. Especially at the end of a stroke. It’s annoying. The disaster you see above is partly inexperience with my hands (how deep to go?) and partly just not knowing what to do at the end of the stroke. Practice will help, so I’ll be trying this again. And no, fixing the mess-ups didn’t help matters at all.
